OUR CRAFT

THE PROCESS

All of our soaps are made the old-fashioned way using natural oils and butters, which react with lye, and cause a chemical reaction to produce soap. Each oil/butter is specifically selected for the properties it brings to the finished product. Some of our favorites to use include olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, sunflower oil, sweet almond oil, shea butter, mango butter, and cocoa butter.

Scents, colorants and other additives (such as honey, oatmeal, goat's milk, coffee grounds and kaolin clay, to name a few) are also mixed into the soap batter before it is poured into a mold, cut into bars a few days later, and left to cure for about 6 weeks.

One of the benefits of using handcrafted soap is that through the process, glycerin is produced, which is a humectant and draws moisture from the air to create a moisturizing, protective layer on your skin.  Most commercial brand soaps actually remove glycerin in order to use it in other products they sell.
